Australia’s premier wearable art event, the Australian Wearable Art Festival (AWAF), proudly presents ‘A Wearable Canvas’. This captivating exhibition features a collection of winning pieces from the Festival’s past four shows, bringing the extraordinary creativity and technical brilliance of wearable art into a gallery setting.

Exhibition Highlights

  • See 11 remarkable garments displayed on mannequins, hung or placed on plinths, showcasing the intricate details and techniques used to create these wearable masterpieces
  • Discover pieces crafted from unconventional materials, including coffee pods, feathers, beads, aluminum, ponytail palms, crochet, and macramé.
  • Explore exhibits across the diverse AWAF categories, including Trashion, Sustainable Nature, Avant-Garde and Floriana, representing the best of national and international wearable art.

Previous Showcases

  • Caloundra Regional Gallery (May to June 2023): The debut of ‘A Wearable Canvas’ attracted widespread acclaim and offered visitors an up-close look at the festival’s most stunning pieces.
  • Cardinia Cultural Centre (April 2024): The second rendition continued to build on its success, featuring a vibrant opening night with strong media attendance and engaging artist talks.

  • Runway video loop: Enjoy a video showcasing these works in motion on the AWAF runway, played continuously throughout the exhibition.
  • Large photos and posters: Admire high-quality images of each piece as they appeared on the catwalk, providing context and enhancing the visual experience.
  • Workshops & roving artists talks: AWAF offers the potential for workshops and artist talks during the exhibition, led by some of the incredible artists behind these wearable art pieces.
